The Mets made one of the biggest trades in their history before the 1985 season, trading Hubie Brooks, Mike Fitzgerald, Herm Winningham and Floyd Youmans to the Expos for All Star catcher Gary Carter.

They had a very good season, and finished with the second best record in the National League. But they did not make the playoffs, finishing three games behind the St. Louis Cardinals. They ended the season with a great record of 98-64.

Dwight Gooden won the Cy Young Award, Gary Carter won a Silver Slugger and Keith Hernandez won another Gold Glove.
