They won three of five on their first home stand of the year and dropped five of seven on a trip to the west coast. They won two of three against the Phillies at Shea before going 3-4 on a road trip to Florida and Atlanta. The Mets lost all five games of an ensuing home stand and ended the month with a 3-1 win at San Diego on June 30. The team had fallen into fifth (last) place in the N. L. East and was fourteen and one-half games behind first-place Atlanta.
