The Mets had their fifth consecutive sub-.500 season in 1995. The team played a reduced 144-game schedule due to the previous year's strike that eventually delayed (and cut) the season. The Mets had a 69-75 won-lost record for the year.

April/May

The Mets' season finally got under way on April 26. In the inaugural game at Denver's Coors Field, the team suffered an 11-9 defeat in 14 innings to the Colorado Rockies. Two nights later, they recorded a 10-8 win over the Cardinals at Shea Stadium in their first home opener ever played at night. The Mets began May with four losses in six games at Montreal and Cincinnati. Between May 9 and May 19, the team won six out of eleven games. The Mets ended a six-game losing streak with a 6-3 victory over the Giants at Shea on May 27. They chalked up a 7-5 win over the Padres in 10 innings at Shea on May 31 to close the month with a 13-20 record on the season.

June

The Mets continued to struggle in June. They won 10 times and had a .370 percentage for the month. Between June 2 and June 11, the team posted a record of 3-7 on a west coast trip. They had the same mark on an ensuing 10-game home stand. The Mets split six games at Atlanta and Florida between June 23 and June 28. The team ended the month with a 7-6 win over the Reds at Shea on June 30. The Mets stood in fourth place in the National League Eastern Division, fifteen and one-half games behind the front-running Phillies.

July

In July, the Mets had another losing month. The team recorded 12 wins and 15 defeats to drop to the division cellar. The Mets started July with seven losses in nine games leading up to the All-Star Break. Following the mid-summer classic in Texas, they won three of four games against the Rockies at Shea. The Mets won four of their next five and followed up with a six-game losing streak. From July 29 to July 31, the team recorded three straight victories over the Pirates at Shea to close out the month. They sat one game behind the fourth-place Marlins and twenty in back of the division-leading Braves.

August

The Mets came out with a winning record in August. They won 16 games and lost 12 during the month. August began with with five straight losses for the Mets, followed by six consecutive victories. The team had a five-game winning streak between August 16 and August 21. The Mets won three games in a row against the Padres at Shea from August 24 to August 26. They ended the month with a pair of wins in a three-game series at Los Angeles. Still, the Mets found themselves trailing the fourth-place Florida team by one game.

September/October

The Mets had a strong finish to the '95 season. They won 18 games and posted a .621 percentage over the final four and one-half weeks. To begin September, the Mets had five victories in ten road games. The team won five in a row at Shea between September 12 and September 17. The Mets split four games at Atlanta from September 18 to September 21 and got swept in an ensuing three-game series at Florida. On a season-closing home stand, they won all six games against the Reds and Braves at Shea between September 25 and October 1. The Mets climbed all the way to a second-place tie with the Phillies to end the year.
