The Mets had another post-season appearance in 2000. The team had a 94-68 won-lost record for their second consecutive Wild Card berth. They also won the National League Championship for the fourth time in team history.

March/April

The Mets started the year with 16 wins in their first 26 games. In the latter half of a season-opening two-game series against the Cubs in Japan, the team recorded a 5-1 win in 11 innings on March 30. The Mets defeated the Padres, 2-1, at Shea Stadium in their first game of the season on American soil on April 3. They had a nine game winning streak from April 16 to April 25. At Colorado on April 30, the Mets concluded the month with a 14-11 victory over the Rockies. The team stood in second place in the National League Eastern Division.

May

In May, the Mets fell back. They had a 13-14 record during the month. The team dropped seven of ten games on the road to begin the month. They lost three of five games against the Marlins and Rockies at Shea between May 12 and May 17. The Mets swept a three-game series against the Diamondbacks from May 19 to May 21 at Shea. The team went 5-4 on an ensuing road trip to San Diego, St. Louis and Los Angeles. At month's end, the Mets were still in second place in the division, but trailing the Braves by seven games.

June

The Mets got back to winning in June. The team chalked up 16 victories and a .667 percentage for the month. Between June 2 and June 10, the Mets won five of eight in interleague play. They went 3-2 on a road trip to Chicago and Milwaukee from June 13 to June 18. At Shea from June 22 to June 28, the Mets won seven games in a row. They ended the month with an 11-8 victory over the Braves at Shea on June 30. The team was only two games in back of the first-place Atlanta team in the N. L. East and a game ahead of the Rockies in the Wild Card race.

July

In July, the Mets had a record of 14 wins and 13 losses. They began the month with a 9-1 triumph over the Braves at Shea on July 1 to get to one game behind the division leaders. However, the team dropped six of its next seven before a 2-0 win over the Yankees on July 9 at Shea. Following the All-Star Break, the Mets went 5-6 on a four-city road trip. They won six in a row against the Expos and Cardinals at Shea from July 25 to July 30. The Mets closed out the month with a 6-0 loss to the Reds on July 31 at Shea. The team was one and one-half games ahead of the Diamondbacks in the Wild Card.

August

August was a successful month for the Mets. They were victorious 20 times and posted a .690 winning percentage. During the first half of the month, the Mets had a pair of four-game winning streaks. At Shea on August 15, they swept a doubleheader with 7-5 and 4-3 wins over the Rockies. The Mets won four of six against the Diamondbacks and Astros at Shea between August 25 and August 30. At the end of the month, the team led the N. L. East by one-half game over the Braves.

September

The Mets played at the .500 mark in September. For the month, the team posted a 14-14 won-lost record. The Mets stopped a four-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory in 10 innings at Cincinnati on September 5. They won three of six against the Phillies and Brewers at Shea from September 8 to September 13. On an ensuing road trip, the Mets won six and lost five at Montreal, Atlanta and Philadelphia. They recorded a 6-2 win over the Braves at Shea on September 27 to clinch the Wild Card. The team ended the month with a 4-2 triumph over the Expos on September 30 at Shea.

October

After a season-ending 3-2 win over the Expos in 13 innings at Shea, the Mets moved on to the post-season. The team defeated the Giants, three games to one, in the National League Division Series. The Mets chalked up a 4-0 victory in the final game of the Series on a one-hitter by Bobby Jones. In the National League Championship Series, they posted a four-games-to-one triumph over the Cardinals to win the pennant. The Mets were then defeated by the Yankees in the World Series.
