Aaron Heilman was a pitcher for the Mets from 2003 to 2008. He appeared in 305 games with the team. Heilman recorded 22 wins and 9 saves as a Met.

Heilman was selected by the Mets in the first round of the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft. He joined the parent club during the ’03 season. At Philadelphia on July 21, Aaron got his first major league win in the Mets’ 8-6 victory over the Phillies. He also struck out seven batters, had a run-scoring single and chalked up the win in a 5-4 Mets triumph over the Giants on August 12 at Shea Stadium.

In 2004, Heilman pitched in five games for the Mets. He had one win and 22 strikeouts during the year. Aaron pitched six innings and got the win in the Mets’ 9-7 victory over the Braves in the first game of a doubleheader at Shea on September 13.

Heilman had 108 innings pitched in 2005. He recorded five wins and five saves during the season. At Shea on April 15, Aaron pitched a complete game one-hitter in the Mets’ 4-0 win over the Marlins. He had five strikeouts in three and one-third innings of scoreless relief for the win in a 7-5 Mets victory at Philadelphia on May 5. Heilman pitched a scoreless seventh inning and got the win in the Mets’ 9-4 triumph at Houston on July 31. He struck out four batters in two scoreless innings for his first save in a 5-1 Mets win over the Pirates on August 17 at Shea. To finish the year, Aaron recorded saves in each of his last four appearances from September 23 to September 30.

As a pure reliever in 2006, Heilman had 87 innings pitched. He recorded 73 strikeouts and four wins during the Mets’ division-winning season. At Shea on July 26, Aaron pitched a scoreless 10th inning for the win in the Mets’ 1-0 victory over the Cubs. He had a pair of scoreless innings and got credit for the win in a 7-4 Mets victory over the Rockies at Shea on August 19. Heilman pitched a perfect ninth inning and got the win in the Mets’ 8-7 triumph over the Cardinals on August 22 at Shea. He had three strikeouts in two perfect innings for the win in a 7-4 Mets triumph in 11 innings at Florida on September 13. Aaron also appeared in six games for the Mets in the post-season.

In 2007, Heilman had a 3.03 earned run average. He had seven wins and one save for the year. Aaron pitched a perfect eighth inning and came away with the win in the Mets’ 9-4 victory at Arizona on May 3. He had two strikeouts in a scoreless 11th for the win in a 2-1 Mets triumph over the Cardinals on June 25 at Shea. Heilman pitched a scoreless eighth inning and got the win in a 4-3 Mets victory over the Braves at Shea on August 8. He also pitched a scoreless ninth for a save in a 4-3 Mets win over the Dodgers on August 25 at Shea.

Heilman pitched in 78 games in 2008. He had three wins, three saves and 80 strikeouts for the season. On July 24, Aaron was the winning pitcher in a 3-1 Mets victory over the Phillies at Shea. He got the win in a 5-3 Mets triumph over the Padres at Shea on August 7. Heilman pitched two perfect innings for a save in the Mets’ 3-0 victory over the Marlins on August 8 at Shea. On August 9, he hurled a scoreless ninth for a save in an 8-6 Mets win over the Marlins at Shea. Aaron pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record a save in the Mets’ 2-1 triumph at Pittsburgh on August 15. He also chalked up the win in a 7-3 Mets victory over the Braves on August 19 at Shea.

Heilman pitched for the Chicago Cubs in 2009. He joined the Arizona Diamondbacks the following year.
