1962: The Mets hit five home runs in defeating the Phillies, 8-6, at the Polo Grounds. It is the Mets' first win ever of a home game.
1970: Dave Marshall hits a grand slam in his first at bat against his former Giants team in the Mets' 5-2 win at San Francisco.
1974: The Mets sweep the Giants in a doubleheader, 6-0 and 6-4, at San Francisco. In Game 1, Jon Matlack pitches a four-hit shutout and Dave Schneck hits two 2-run homers.
1982: The Mets defeat the Padres, 5-4, in 15 innings at San Diego.
1984: Ross Jones hits a game-winning double in the ninth inning to give the Mets a 4-3 victory over the Phillies at Shea Stadium. It is Jones' only hit and RBI as a Met.
1985: The Mets defeat the Pirates, 5-4, in an 18-inning game at Shea Stadium.
1995: The Mets come from behind for a 10-8 win over the Cardinals at Shea Stadium. The game is the team's first home opener of a season ever played at night.
1997: The Mets get 17 hits in a 15-2 win over the Reds at Cincinnati.
1999: Mike Piazza hits a two-run homer in the ninth inning to give the Mets a 4-3 win over the Padres at Shea Stadium.
2001: At St. Louis, the Mets score three runs in the ninth inning to tie the game. They go on to defeat the Cardinals, 6-5, in the 11th.
2009: The Mets release Freddy Garcia.
