1979: The Mets defeat the Cubs, 10-6, in the season opener. Jesse Orosco makes his major league debut by retiring Bill Buckner for the final out.
1983: Tom Seaver pitches his first game with the Mets in over five years. Tom shuts out the Phillies for six innings as the Mets go on to a 2-0 win on Opening Day at Shea Stadium. Reliever Doug Sisk gets credit for the win.
1993: Dwight Gooden pitches a 3-0 shutout over the Colorado Rockies on Opening day at Shea Stadium. It is the Rockies' first game in their history.
2003: The Mets defeat the Expos, 3-1, at Shea Stadium. Tom Glavine records his first win as a Met.
2010: The Mets begin their second season at Citi Field with a 7-1 win over the Marlins on Opening Day. David Wright hits a home run and Jason Bay hits a triple. Johan Santana is the winning pitcher.
