1984: In his major league debut, Dwight Gooden records his first win in the Mets 3-2 victory over the Astros in Houston.

1987: The Mets defeat the Pirates, 3-2, on Opening Day at Shea Stadium.

1993: The Mets defeat the Rockies, 6-1, at Shea Stadium. Bret Saberhagen allows two hits in eight innings and Mike Maddux pitches a perfect ninth.
