Fernando Tatis is 34 years old. He joined the majors on July 26, 1997 for the Texas Rangers, and was traded the next year. After injuries and other setbacks when Tatis was on the Expos (now known as the Nationals) Tatis found himself out of baseball. He came back to baseball in 2005, playing for the Mets' minor league team New Orleans Zephyrs. The Mets called up Tatis on May 11 of the 2008 season and he won the comeback player of the year award.

[edit] Tatis in St. Louis
Tatis was traded to the Cardinals after a season with the Rangers. He played three seasons in St. Louis. He had his best season in the majors in 1999 hitting 34 homers and had 107 RBI with a .298 AVG. He only played 96 games in 2000 due to injuries. Tatis was traded to the Expos in 2001.

In 1999 in a game against the Dodgers Tatis had the best inning for a player in baseball history, he hit two grand slams against the same pitcher, Chan Ho Park. David Ortiz got close to Fernando's great game against the Rangers in 2008 hitting two home runs, one a grand slam and one a three run home run. Alex Rodriguez accomplished the same feat as Ortiz on October 4, 2009 of Wade Davis and Andy Sonnanstine of the Rays. One RBI short of Tatis's 8 RBI

In 2001 Tatis was traded to the Expos, in three seasons he played only 208 games due-to injures. After he left Montreal the Tampa Bay "Devil" Rays. He did not make the major leagues so he left baseball to be with his famliy .

After not making the majors in 2004 Tatis left baseball to be with his family back in San Pedro de Macoris, his home town in the Dominance Republic. San Pedro de Macoris did not have a church so Tatis in 2006 Tatis decided to get back in Baseball.

In 2006 Tatis was singed by the Orioles to a minor league deal, he played only 28 games in the majors. The next year Tatis was singed in LA with the dodgers, after he did not make the majors Tatis asked to be released. He got released and on March 23 the Mets singed him and he spent all of 2007 in the minors playing for the New Orleans Zephyrs.

Tatis was called up on May 11 of the 2008 season, he hit .297 with 11 home runs and had 47 RBI, he only played 92 games due to a Grade III separation in his shoulder, at the end of the season he was awarded with the comeback player of the year award, and the Mets and Tatis agreed on a one year 1.7 deal and they are looking forward to having him in the outfield in 2009.

After the 2009 season the Mets re-signed him to a one year deal on 1/28/2010.
