Jenrry Mejia is a promising 20 year old Mets pitcher. He signed with the New York Mets as an international free agent on April 4, 2007.
Mejia made his Mets debut in Spring Training on April 9, 2010 against the Flordia Marlins. Mejia gave up a run on three hits in one inning in a Met loss.
Mejia made the opening day roster as a reliever. Many felt that given that this held back his development of his secondary pitches.
On June 20, 2010, Mejia was sent down to the minors to become a starter. Bobby Parnell took his spot in the Mets Bullpen.
He made his first major league start at Wrigley Field on September 4,2010, throwing to Mike Nickeas, who made his Mets debut in that game. Mejia gave up 4 runs in 5 innings and took the loss. He gave up 6 runs in 4 innings in his next start, but did get his first major league hit, lining an 0-1 pitch from Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay into right field on September 10,2010 in the mets 8-4 loss to the phillies.
