Jim Fregosi
From The Met Wiki
Jim Fregosi was a player for the Mets in 1972 and 1973. Primarily used as a third baseman, Fregosi appeared in 146 games during his two seasons with the team. Jim had 108 hits and 43 runs batted in as a Met.
After 11 seasons with the Angels, Fregosi was traded to the Mets for Nolan Ryan, Leroy Stanton, Don Rose and Francisco Estrada on December 10, 1971. In his first year with the Mets (and in the National League), Jim had a batting average of .232 with five home runs. On April 26, he hit a three-run homer to lift the Mets to a 5-1 win at San Diego. His three-run homer in the eighth inning on May 15 broke a tie to give the Mets an eventual 5-3 win over the Expos at Shea Stadium. Fregosi had a two-run single and a three-run homer in the Mets' 7-4 win over the Pirates at Shea on June 27. Also at Shea, he had three hits in a 4-1 Mets win over the Pirates on September 20.
In 1973, Jim had 29 hits and 11 RBIs while splitting time between third base and shortstop. In June, he collected eight hits in a four-game span, three of which came in the Mets' 5-2 win over the Padres at Shea on June 15. Fregosi also got two singles at Chicago on July 1 in the last game in which he was in the Mets' starting lineup.
On July 11, 1973, Fregosi was sold to the Texas Rangers. He played for the Rangers until 1977 and finished his playing career with the Pirates in 1978. During the '78 season, Jim became the manager of the Angels and led them to an American League West Division title in 1979. Fregosi also served as manager for the Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays. He guided the Phillies to the National League championship in 1993.
