1957: New York attorney William_A._Shea announces the formation of a third major league, the Continental League, to begin play in 1961. One of the charter teams for the league would be placed in New York.

2009: Mets GM Omar Minaya fired vice president of player development Tony Bernazard, later in the press conference Minaya took a indirect shot at Daily News Mets reporter Adam Rubin.
