1966: Nolan Ryan makes his first career major league start.

1975: The Mets defeat the Cubs, 7-5, on Dave Kingman's home run in the bottom of the ninth. Kingman's homer gives him 35 for the season, breaking Frank Thomas's team record. Also, Rusty Staub becomes the first Met ever to reach 100 runs batted in for a season.

1981: Jesse Orosco records his first major league save in the Mets' 8-1 win over the Cardinals at Shea Stadium.

1990: Darryl Strawberry hits his last home run at Shea Stadium. It was his 250th career homer and his 35th of the season. The Mets lose to the Expos, 4-3.

1993: The Mets score twice in the ninth inning and once in the tenth for a 3-2 comeback win over the Braves in Atlanta. Tito Navarro drives in the winning run with his only major league hit.

1999: The Mets defeat the Phillies, 11-1, at Shea Stadium. Rey Ordonez collects four hits, including a grand slam.

2006: The Mets defeat the Marlins, 4-2, to clinch the National League East Division title.
