Steve Phillips (born on May 18, 1963) is a former American baseball analyst for ESPN and baseball executive. He served as the general manager of the New York Mets from 1997–2003. He worked as a baseball analyst for ESPN from 2005 until his dismissal on October 25, 2009 after admitting to having sex multiple times with a production assistant at the network.

Know for GM of the Mets

Steve joined the Mets in 1990. He was promoted to be the GM of the Mets on July 16,1997. Steve added starts to the team by signing Al Leiter,Mike Piazza, and also Robin Ventura. Phillips made the team to go to the 2000 World Series. He drafted David Wright,Scott Kazmir, and Lastings Milledge.

But when he was GM he had a tough time getting along with manager Bobby Valentine and he was planning on firing him before the 2003 season. He traded Jason Bay and he almost traded Jose Reyes to the Cleveland Indians. He was blamed for trading Scott Kazmir to the Tampa Bay Rays for Victor Zambrano.

Fired by the Mets

On June 12,2003 Steve Phillips was fired by Fred Wilpon after a 29-35 start to the season. He was then later replaced by former manager Jim Duquette.
