Bernazard is a former big league second baseman and players' union executive. He joined the Mets in 2004.

On July 27 Mets GM Omar Minaya fired Bernazard after the media confirmed that he had confronted a team employee, challenged Minor League players to a fight and challenged Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez.

In Omar Minaya's press conference he took a indirect shot at Daily News Mets reporter Adam Rubin who covered and mostly led the investigation of Bernazard.

Minaya pointed out that Adam Rubin had lobbied him and other Mets employees for a position in player development.

The Next day before the Mets took on the Colorado Rookies Minaya apologized to Adam Rubin
