Team: Pittsburgh Pirates
Sent: Xavier Nady
Received: Roberto Hernandez and Oliver Perez

The trade was made after Duaner Sanchez got injured in a Taxi accident, the doctors told the the Mets that he would be out for a long time. So the Mets needed a new relief pitcher, that is why they went out to get Roberto Hernandez.

Before the injury to Sanchez the Mets were looking at a possible deal with the Athletics to bring there big Ace Rich Harden to New York for Lastings Milledge. But if they were going to trade Xavier Nady they would need Lastings for the outfield and bench. So instead of Hardan they got Oliver Perez, not as good but its the best they could get.
